A few years ago I began researching out the history of the sourdough starter I kept on my counter. What a surprise when I found out it was connected to some of my favorite Alaskans - Dick Proenneke and Mardy Murie!

When I began interviewing some of the other characters who have kept this sourdough alive for decades - I became more and more fascinated with the whole process.

I jokingly refer to myself as a sourdough geneologist! (at nearly 50 I am still trying to cover up the fact that I never graduated from college - still trying to impress my dad)

Anyway, check the other site - even if you aren't interested in owning a sourdough starter, the history is very fun and I think I have found my next book project!
